The Fabric of Librarianship: A patchwork of experience

The Canadian Association of Professional Academic Librarians (CAPAL) is pleased to accept proposals for the 2025 CAPAL Conference, taking place June 2-3 at George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario. CAPAL25 will take place as part of the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences Congress 2025.

Theme

The theme for CAPAL25 is Sustainability and Shared Futures in Academic Libraries, which speaks to the variety of unique backgrounds and perspectives we bring to the profession of academic librarianship. Proposals should respond to the question of how the diversity of skills, perspectives, and roles that academic librarians fulfill piece together to make up the quilt of our professional community.

We invite proposals from librarians, practitioners, researchers, students, and community members that:

• Speak about personal and professional experiences related to the profession, studies, and research;

• Research, projects, and initiatives related to the field of academic librarianship, or derived from experiences within the field of library and information science.

Proposed sessions can take the form of:

• Panel (1 hour)

• Presentation (20 minutes, or 1 hour)

• Lightning talk (5-7 minutes)

• Community conversation (1 hour) — This is a moderated discussion on the topic of your choosing, related to librarianship or otherwise. The listed presenters will serve as moderators.

Proposals are due by February 14th, 2025

Proposals should be:

• Submitted in PDF format

• Email subject line format: “CAPAL25 Submission: Name of lead applicant (last name, first name)”

Proposals should include:

• Session title

• Name of presenter(s) and panelists, where applicable

• Abstract (250-500 words maximum)

• Short biography about each presenter or panelists (150 words maximum per person)
